The academic administrative team at ISK is comprised of the Director, three sectional Principals from the elementary, middle and high schools, the Curriculum Coordinator and the Director of Technology.
 Director
John Roberts is passionate about international education, and the tremendous transformational effect it can have on students and community alike. At the heart of his philosophy of education is the belief that learning is deepest when it is meaningful for the student. For that reason his vision of an outstanding school is one that provides many opportunities for children and young adults to challenge themselves and to connect in purposeful ways with the world around them. Community service is, therefore, an essential component of any school he serves, along with opportunities to provide leadership in addressing real local problems. His philosophy is reflected in ISK's curriculum and the methods used by its teachers, as they are child-centered and enquiry-driven. It is for these reasons that John often says that ISK's Vision Statement resonates with him: "Empowering students to create solutions for tomorrow's challenges."
John began as Director of ISK in July, 2009, after 28 years in education including 22 years in international schools. Prior to joining ISK he was Superintendent of Lincoln Community School, an IB World School in Ghana, for five years; Deputy Superintendent and High School Principal of Escuela Campo Alegre (The American International School of Caracas) for six years; and High School Principal at the International School of Tanganyika (I.S.T.), in Dar es Salaam, for five years. From 1988 through 1993 Mr. Roberts served the Anglo-American School of Moscow, first as elementary art teacher then Upper School Principal.
After several years teaching secondary humanities in Vancouver, John and his wife, Charlene, left Canada with their daughters Jasmyn and Nadia in 1988 to discover the joys and challenges of international work and living. Their daughters graduated from the International School of Tanganyika ten years later and are now living happily in Vancouver, each with her own family...and still well connected to their many international friends from school! The Roberts say they have always been attracted to dynamic schools with a compassionate ethos and ambitious vision for the future--which is why they are proud to be serving ISK!
