The PTO ‘Duka’ (Shop) is an important part of the PTO’s connection to the broader community. Run by a team of dedicated volunteers it is a great place to buy Kenyan handicrafts, jewelry, clothing, homeware and other items made by non-profit organisations and artisans who aid poor, disadvantaged and/or disabled people to earn a living. It is also a hub for the parent community with a bulletin board used to display information.
Located next to the auditorium in the Arts Centre, the PTO shop’s main aim is to assist low-income vendors through selling their hand-made products with no extra markup, so that they can increase their sales. The Shop management team gives vendors regular feedback about how to improve their products, designs and marketing, and organize workshops to help them manage their small businesses and become self-sustainable.
The PTO ‘Duka’ is a welcoming and pleasant place for parents, teachers, staff, students and visitors to shop for good quality, locally made African crafts and gifts within the safety of the school environs.
Current opening hours:
Tuesday & Friday: 8:00–9:30 a.m. and 3:00–4:30 p.m.
Thursday: 3:00–4:30 p.m.
The PTO is a wonderful way for the ISK family to be able to give back, in a small way to the community we live in and the country that hosts us. Do come along and support the great work that is going on in the PTO Shop to benefit the under-privileged.
