Technology and Design Integration Process

At ISK, we are committed to fostering innovative and engaging learning experiences through the integration of technology and design thinking across all grade levels. Each division of the school is supported by dedicated technology and design integrators. These experts collaborate closely with teachers to incorporate relevant technology and design methodologies into their lessons and units.

By doing so, we ensure that our students are equipped with the critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills necessary for success beyond ISK. Our integrators provide ongoing professional development and support, empowering educators to create dynamic, interactive, and inspiring educational experiences.

Elementary School

We nurture curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking in elementary school through an exploratory design program. Our students embark on purposeful inquiries as a tool for constructing meaning. These opportunities are woven throughout units of inquiry, personal inquiry projects, Pride Helpers, and co-curricular activities.

Our teachers use the ISK Design Cycle to guide students through the design thinking process, encouraging them to ask questions, iterate, and reflect on their learning journey. We empower our elementary students to become thinkers, collaborators, communicators, self-managers, and changemakers by emphasizing process and purpose.

Middle School

In Middle School, we endeavor to solve real-world problems using the design cycle. This powerful process helps us brainstorm, plan, create, and refine solutions that make a difference. Together, we will develop a wide range of skills and attitudes that are essential for creativity and innovation.

We explore various mediums to bring our ideas to life. Whether it's through drawing, modeling, digital design, or hands-on crafting, we learn to turn our visions into tangible products. Our goal is to equip ourselves with the tools and mindsets necessary to tackle challenges and create impactful solutions. Currently, the electives we offer are Product Design, Robotics, Game Design, and Genius Hour. We also offer a variety of after-school programs such as Coding Club, Robotics, Minecraft Club, and DIY Design.

High School

In High School, design is about looking at the world around us through a critical lens, identifying real-world problems, and designing solutions. Through our course offerings, students have the opportunity to explore varying design contexts through which they can solve problems. Currently, the electives offered are Graphic Design, Engineering, Product Design, Robotics, Game Design, Motion Graphics, and Electronics & Programming. In addition, we offer IB Design Technology at SL/HL to students in grades 11 and 12. Beyond these courses, the design program also offers an opportunity for students to conduct self-paced learning by enrolling in online courses such as AP Computer Science or The STEAM Impact Project, a 1-2 year independent study program where students get to explore a complex Design/STEAM project with the guidance of a faculty advisor.

Outside of the classroom, students have a wide range of co-curricular activities to choose from that operate out of the Design & Art Center. These include, Plastiki Rafiki, Construction by Design, 3D Fundi, Design Studio Kenya, Video and Animation Club, ISK Autos, Ceramics, Elements, Photography Club, as well as ISSEA STEAM.

A 1 to 1 program is an essential element for the success of our technology vision of how students learn in the 21st century. The ability for our students to have increased access to information, social interaction and the ability to create and share digital content exponentially increases in a 1 to 1 environment.
