PhilosophyThe educational philosophy of the ISK ICT program will cultivate a culture of innovation amongst teachers, students and our community. ISK provides ICT resources, expertise, and learning opportunities needed to develop the robust ICT capability required for rich and vigorous participation as global citizens.

ISK ICT Goals

At ISK, students develop lifelong ICT capability as they learn to use ICT effectively and responsibly in their learning. Students use ICT to:

Competently access, communicate, remix, and create knowledge and concepts;
Investigate and solve relevant problems;
Work collaboratively in all learning areas at school and in their lives beyond school;
Explore and innovate using design and computational thinking;
Participate ethically and responsibly in a digital environment;
Understand ICT systems and contribute to new ways of doing things as technologies evolve.

Recognizing that technology is multi-disciplinary by nature and has applications in any environment, ISK promotes life-long success by infusing technology utilization throughout the teaching and learning processes.

Integration Process

Students and teachers utilize technology to support personalized learning throughout an AIMS-based curriculum.

With technology in the hands and minds of students, creativity and problem-solving flow from student-generated inquiry and collaborative investigation.

Students choose how to use and mix technology tools to invent, communicate their ideas, and to build on the learning of others.

While technology tools are readily available, their learning power is in the creativity of students and teachers.

Students use a Design Cycle that prepares them to design and innovate in a natural workflow that is appropriate for young learners, social entrepreneurs, and modern businesses.

Elementary School

Students in Grades 3 to 5 participate in a school-issued iPad 1 to 1 program in which iPads are stored for them at school. The tablets are only taken home during periods in which students are preparing special work, such as the Grade 5 Capstone Project. Students receive guidance in the use and care of the iPads and sign a student pledge. They also develop a critical awareness of Digital Citizenship that will grow throughout their years at ISK.

Pre-K through Grade 2 students use class sets of technology tools such as iPads, laptop cart, or Chromebooks cart.

Elementary School students and teachers also utilize the Elementary School Makerspace.

Middle School

Students in Grades 6 to 8 are given a school-issued Chromebook to use in school and at home. Students are trained in the use and care of the device and sign a student pledge. They also develop a critical awareness of Digital Citizenship that will grow throughout their years at ISK

Technology is integrated into the Middle School program with the emphasis on using technology to help students reach the educational aims at ISK: to learn, to create, to solve problems, to communicate, and to act collaboratively. The program is aligned with the standards of the International Society of Technology in Education (ISTE) and is facilitated by a technology integrator and the subject teachers. All students in the Middle School are issued a Chromebook, and our program uses Google Apps for Education. In addition, we have an impressive Innovation Studio, which is a space for rich projects and student exploration. The Innovation Studio has extensive equipment for making, including technology and industrial tools. Digital Citizenship, ethics and safety is included as a part of our program.

High School

Technology is integrated into the High School program with the emphasis on using technology to help students reach the educational aims at ISK: to learn, to create, to solve problems, to communicate, and to act collaboratively. The program is aligned with the standards of the International Society of Technology in Education (ISTE) and is facilitated by a technology integrator and the subject teachers.

At the High School division, students are required to purchase their own laptop. ISK is a "Mac" School therefore new students and those entering Grade 9 are required to purchase a MacBook Pro or Air. Please plan to purchase their Mac laptop before their first day of school.

The basic requirements for the new Macs are; WIFI, antivirus protection and eight hours battery life. We highly recommend a 13" MacBook Air laptop. The prices for these units range from 1129€ and up in the EU and from US$899 and up in the U.S., exclusive of duties and taxes. ISK's VISION FOR THE ONE TO ONE TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM

A 1 to 1 program is an essential element for the success of our technology vision of how students learn in the 21st century. The ability for our students to have increased access to information, social interaction and the ability to create and share digital content exponentially increases in a 1 to 1 environment.

All ISK students participate in the one to one program.
