Exploring Kenya, Developing Character, and Embracing Diversity
ISK’s Intercultural (IC) Trips program invites students to step out of their comfort zones and immerse themselves in meaningful, real-world experiences. Designed to reinforce ISK’s Mission and Vision and foster the Big 5 Learner Attributes—Self-Manager, Collaborator, Communicator, Change Maker, and Thinker—these trips cultivate personal growth, resilience, and a deeper appreciation for Kenya’s rich cultural and natural heritage.
Program Overview
Each trip is thoughtfully crafted to engage students in challenging, interdisciplinary learning opportunities, providing the knowledge, skills, and dispositions they need to thrive in a global context. These experiences encourage students to develop their sense of self, connect with others, and gain a profound understanding of Kenya’s diverse landscapes, people, and traditions.
Over the course of their ISK journey, grade 3-12 students will participate in trips that challenge them to grow in various dimensions through extended, off-campus activities.
Three Pillars of Intercultural Trips
All trips focus on one or more of the Big 5 and also on following areas, each deeply rooted in ISK’s mission and vision:
- Service and Leadership: Engaging with local communities to address real-world challenges, develop leadership skills, and make a positive impact.
- Adventure and Personal Challenge: Encouraging resilience, self-management, and teamwork through physically and mentally demanding experiences in Kenya’s stunning natural environments.
- Intercultural Learning and Host Country Appreciation: Promoting cultural understanding and respect by exploring the traditions, history, and perspectives of Kenya’s diverse communities.
Each trip prioritizes one of these pillars while often incorporating elements of the others.
